A charming, atmospheric and affordable 3-bedroom family home with a lovely airy makuti-thatched roof terrace, Mtende House nestles close to the sand dunes in a quiet part of the village and is just a short stroll from Shela’s seafront, beach and Peponi Hotel.

“We loved staying at Mtende House – it is located within easy walking distance of the beach and restaurants – the narrow winding streets that lead to the house through the small and unique village of Shela made us feel we were really immersed in the community. The house is very clean and welcoming and each of the 3 spacious bedrooms has its own bathroom. Each bed has mosquito netting and the towels are very soft and luxurious. An added bonus was the roof top room which had a loft attached with another bed. We spent much of our time up here enjoying the cool breezes and comfortable relaxing couches. This is where we enjoyed several delicious meals that were prepared just for us by the house chef. I would highly recommend staying here!”

Location

Mtende House sits in a very peaceful corner of Shela beside high sand dunes covered in bush and close to the ruins of an old mosque. There is a wide variety of bird life to be seen as well as monkeys and the occasional small antelope. The beach and seafront are just a short and pleasant stroll away through a quiet portion of the village. Lamu Town is two miles north of Shela, and Manda Island and its airport are a short boat ride away.
